Don Haskins' fans might not be able to toast their beloved coach at the opening of a sports lounge being named in his honor. That's because Mike Armstrong, co-owner of the Bear's Den: The Official Don Haskins Sports Lounge & Grill, is also the co-defendant in a wrongful death lawsuit. The lawsuit was filed by the family of Lourdes Lopez, 28, and alleges that Armstrong's other bar, the Three Legged Monkey, knowingly over-served alcohol to Lopez who was reportedly drunk and then died in a head-on collisio  

The UTEP faithful can join coaches and players at the Don Haskins Center today to celebrate a successful season and watch as teams are selected to play in the NCAA Tournament. UTEP's loss to Houston on Saturday muddied the waters somewhat, but the Miners still are expected to play in the Big Dance. Selection Sunday is upon us and College basketball fans everywhere are preparing to fill out their brackets. Once again the state of Texas will be well represented in the field of 65. The University of North Texas was the first school to qualify for this year's tournament.  

UTEP men's basketball coach Tony Barbee was named the Conference USA coach of the year and junior guard Randy Culpepper accepted the conference player of the year award. Barbee joins Don Haskins and Billy Gillispie as the only UTEP coaches to win a conference coach of the year award. Only Tim Hardaway has won a conference player of the year award for UTEP, when he accepted the WAC player of the year trophy in 1989.  

The postseason awards keep coming for UTEP. UTEP's Tony Barbee was named the Conference USA Coach of the Year and junior guard Randy Culpepper was honored as the league's Player of the Year on Wednesday. "I'm very happy to accept this award on behalf of our team," Barbee said in a news release.

UTEP is ready to play for another championship, a Conference USA Tournament championship. It will be yet another trophy, yet another banner for a program filled with trophies and banners. History and tradition are integral parts of any good program.  

Idaho senior Mac Hopson, a first-team all-WAC point guard last year, was one of five honorable mentions (essentially the third team) by the conference this afternoon. He was on the conference's preseason first team and averaged 15.6 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists per game. Also, center Marvin Jefferson was named to the All-Defensive team.  

Utah State men's head basketball coach Stew Morrill has often said rewards come after the team does well. That was certainly the case Sunday when the All-Western Athletic Conference awards were announced. Five Aggies were honored, as well as Morrill.
